Mandy M Barnett is a psychology graduate, clinical educator and retired consultant physician who worked for over 30 years in the NHS, and as an associate clinical professor at Warwick Medical School (WMS) in the UK. She is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

Brief

Packed with research and personal experience, Mandy M Barnett’s guide to Tourette’s Syndrome is aimed at parents, but is also recommended for teachers, and will indeed be useful for anyone wanting to know more about the condition. It covers signs, coping strategies, inspirational stories and lots more in a really accessible way.

This was Mandy’s first self-publishing project, and she needed an editor who would lead her through the editing and proofreading process, treat her manuscript with care and respect, and produce a high-quality end product to support parents and maintain her credibility as a medical professional.

Project

We kept in constant communication during the project, through video calls and online messaging.

During the editing stage, I checked the text for issues with grammar, spelling and punctuation, as well as flow, meaning and suitability of language for the target audience. I included tags/codes for the typesetter, to ensure the headings and formatting of pull-out quotes and other elements would be consistent.

The proofreading stage involved a thorough check of the final designed file, looking out for any final textual errors, checking for layout and formatting issues, and generally making sure the book looked as perfect as possible.
